Welded wire too big?

So we are refurbishing our old Corn Crib and making it into a Summer coop for our meat chickens this summer. The corn crib has some heavy gage wire fencing that we want to reuse. However, it is a rectangle pattern about 2"x4". I dont think a coon could stretch it out enough to get in, obviously it could reach in, which we have enclosed the roosting area so they should be ok. I'm wondering if anyone else has used this stuff or doesn't think its a good idea. We were planning on just having the end enclosed with wood and the rest open to the run, we didn't want to put up a door between the two so that we can expand on it in the future easily enough. Here are some pictures of what we've done and some where you can see the existing metal fencing.

 
The woven wire fencing is good, but weasels and rats can get in easily. Some hardware cloth added would really improved security for a very long time, and would be worth the investment. How safe is the base? A skirt or something to prevent digging would be a very good idea too. It's a great start! Mary
 
We've put up some base board and nailed hardware cloth and buried it to the bottom. I know hardware cloth would certainly work better, just dont know if we can do all of it at once. It may have to be a roll this month and another next month and so on. I figured if the roosting area was protected they should be safe at night by reusing the existing fence stuff
 
It's very possible to start adding hardware cloth a bit at a time. Start at the bottom and work up. After many years, last summer we finally roofed and secured the run, and it's great! For winter, we wrapped the lower six feet in plastic sheeting, and the entire space worked as a coop. Mary



 
Wow! That looks great! Thanks for the advice, I'll start collecting some hardware cloth for the future.
