HELP PLEASE! One of seven of my girls has a nasty looking area just under her vent. Her feathers in that area are sparse and what is there is crusty. She looks uncomfortable and I've already seen one of her coop mates start pecking a it. I keep their living areas as clean as possible, but we have had over 7" of rain in the last week, so I'm not sure what's causing this. Thus far, none of the others seem to have a problem. We did have one egg over the weekend that was covered in blood and caused me a bit of alarm, but I didn't see any signs of a prolapsed vent..... can anyone please help on what this is and what I can do to help her??

Really?? No one else has had this problem with any of their hens?? I'd really like to get her some help and, just as important, would like to make sure this isn't something that will spread through the rest of the flock...

UPDATE: Since my original post, I have given my hen 2 warm baths with Epsom salts and Hydrogen Peroxide, which she seemed to enjoy. However, she has a very loose (albeit small) stool which isn't normal for her and when passing an egg while I was holding her it was completely without a shell. It was nothing but the membrane and yolk. gAfter expelling the shell-less egg she did have a prolapsed vent, which we manually reinserted. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL MY WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY HEN?? DOES SHE NEED TO BE ON AN ANTIBIOTIC SINCE SHE DID PROLAPSE?

Please and thank you!

She could have been over preening if she is being bothered by lice or mites. Here is an article to check out on them ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/mites-lice-treatment-and-prevention
The redness could the have caused her flock mates to the start pecking. If you can't find evidence of lice/mites it could just be the others feather pecking then going too far because of the redness which will encourage more pecking. Ther are anti peck sprays you can purchase.
