My friend got some ducklings from TSC. One appeared to be a very new baby, and it can't make a sound. It finally started eating and drinking, thank goodness (one reason why I think it was very new, other than its appearance - I know they don't need to eat for the first few days), but still no noise. He's 4-5 days old now, I believe.
Here's a video she sent me...any ideas?

Could be a congenital condition with the voice, could be a slight irritation or injury (or something else, but those are the first things I could think of).

For right now, make sure the little has proper food, with fresh water 24/7, a way to safely rinse his or her little head frequently, proper temperature, safe environment, all that (see the Raising Ducklings sticky). Please give us an update in a day or two....

Thanks :)
I believe she has all of that going on. Her other ducklings are a few weeks older and are all doing fine...she just wanted to "rescue" this one because of his issues. Someone else mentioned it could be a sinus issue and to make sure he can dunk his head...she said he could, but she's never seem him actually do it.

Some poultry vitamins in their drinking water will help boost his little immune system. Once a week, maybe twice a week.

Keeping the temps right, all that, and supervised time in water that is brooder temperature or a couple degrees warmer. Then make sure he either starts preening right away, or dry him off with a dry washcloth. Gotta prevent chills.

She took the little baby to the vet yesterday and they told her it had an infection.

She's got meds to give it twice a day...fingers crossed he comes out okay.
