I believe my favorite hen may be a roo!

So, I have what I believe to be a roo, she (he? ) is my favorite;extremely sweet, gentle, patient, outgoing and who I



thought would be my first gal to ring the "Bell" and lay an egg. However, I'm starting to think my sweet girl is a roo. What are your thoughts?

Aw shucks, I was thinking she was a roo. He fooled me with his sweet hen ways! I may keep him just because he is so darn sweet! I wanted only hens.

You don't come by many friendly cockerels anymore. Handle him lots as a chick if you plan to keep him. Don't let him bully you. The worst thing that you can do is be afraid of him. My brother and dad acted afraid of my roos and he attacked them. I walked in boldly and could pick him up and Carry him around. I find the roos attitude depends on if he thinks he can test you

The other hens are a little iffy of me still, even after all this time working patiently with them. I will certainly take your advice to heart, and I appreciate it. I am new to roosters, so any advice is appreciated.

That's the way it is with nearly all my 9 cockerels. They're so sweet, friendly, and personable!

Keeping roosters is a lot of fun. I have two currently and they have so much personality it's halarious to watch them everyday! I agree with chickenlovers advice handle him a lot as a chick so he will keep his sweetness when he's an adult. One of my roosters I handled a ton as a chick and he used to hop up on my arm, now he doesn't, but he's still very sweet to me and let's me pick him up. My other rooster doesn't only because I didn't give him that attention as a chick, but he's still a good roo. I find it funny, because usually it's the roosters are the friendliest as chicks not the hens. Some of the roosters when they grow up will not be as docile, but if you keep handling him a lot I'm sure he will still be a sweet roo when he grows up.
Other advice is have him build trust in you. If roosters trust you they will be super friendly unlike roosters that don't. The best way to do so is by putting him on the ground gently after you hold him or pick him up, don't throw him and let him fly down and don't ever chase him, also giving him treats and letting him take it out of your hand when you are ready. Hope this helps. He sure is a cute little guy.

He's cute! Yes, if handled gently their whole lives, roosters can be very sweet and affectionate (as far as chickens go). A rooster is good to have to help to watch out for the hens and protect them.
