This is one of my Speckled Sussex hens that I bought this spring. Last Thursday a hawk came and tried to take her. That puncture mark next to my thumb is the only thing I can see that the hawk did, (its under her wing). But the chick cannot stand, walk or balance, she just stays on her side. She can move herself around by pushing with her wings, she eats and drinks okay. But her peeping is really quite. Do you think the hawk broke her back? I was sure her lungs her punctured, but when she survived the first night, it had to be something else.

Isolate her with food and water to limit activity. A dog crate would work well. I don't think her back is broken but I could be wrong. Do her legs move at all? Hold her up very gently and see if she will move them. Can you feel any breaks?
