Thanks for the tips everyone. We'll definitely give the scratch/treat container a try - the kids will have a blast shaking it for them! Raptors are definitely the big concern during the day and we have them by the dozens. Pdirt encouraging to hear your eagles don't bother with them that gives me some peace of mind. Once we have a few days with decent weather (when I'm not out building the coop) we'll start trying a few short periods before dark and ramp up slowly. Thanks all again for the advice!
