Hello! A family friend's son hatched eggs with his third grade class and all of the students had the opprotunity to take a few home. He raised two of them with his mom for a few weeks and brought them to me today (we planned for him to do this because I am always ready for some new chickens). One look at the chick and I knew it had wry neck. He told me that it was always like that, but it can still walk and he thought that he saw it eat. Anyways, I read that it is usually a Vitiman E deficiancy so I was going to give it some spinachin its food, olive oil in its water, and some random spices like sage and cinnimun in its water that I read would help. Am I doing this right? Would it be better to just cull it? Thank you for your advice!

P.S. he didn't remember their age or breed {sigh} but they both have wing feathers and fluff over the rest of their body, if that helps.

I would DEFINITELY give the baby a chance before culling it immediately. Do you have Nutri-drench, Rooster Booster electrolytes & vitamins and minerals, or straight vitamin E capsules? I used the first two to treat one of my bantams who developed wry neck, and she came through just fine! You would never know there was ever anything wrong with her. You could also try giving her extra protein, like scrambled eggs or yogurt to give her an extra boost. I hope everything goes well for you and that precious little one!

Thank you! I was only asking about culling because I didn't want her to suffer. I will get that kind of electrotes for sure. Should I give her all of the weird stuff that I mentioned in the first post and the scrambled eggs? Thanks!

Here are some pictures:

Here is a comparitive picture of the other chick:

You're so welcome! I completely understand not wishing to see anything suffer.

Thankfully, with wry neck, there is hope for her rather than just a life of discomfort. Of course, I don't see anything wrong with treating her herbally as well as with vitamin E.

Awwwww....she's so cute! Poor little girl. Here are some before and after pictures of my Dakota for reference:

See the transformation?

I'm sure your baby will pull through this, just give it a little time to gradually improve.

I got the rooster booster stuff that you suggested and I made some scrambled eggs just now to give to her. I hope to see her improve soon! I am also putting a few drops of the herbs/spices water on the tip of her beak every once in a while as well.

Hello all! Unfortunately, yesterday I was forced to put the chick to sleep. It had gotten a lot better but suddenly took a turn for the worst yesterday and I couldn't stand to watch the poor thing suffer. It's head was upside-down and underneath her to the point where she could not stand nor sit normally, so it lay down on it's side unable to move, eat, or drink (I will spare you depression by not posting pictures; they are somewhat disturbing as well). I tried to help it drink by dripping water on it's beak but it couldn't swallow. Even if there was a chance of recovery, it seemed unfair for me to make it suffer. Thank you for all of your help anyways! I will defiantly use your great advice in the future. RIP little guy/girl!

I was just getting ready to reply to you (sorry, it's been really busy around here!

But I feel you did the right thing by not letting it suffer in that fashion.

Dakota never got that bad, but had she, things might have turned out very differently. You are doing a spectacular job taking care of your chooks!
