I think this is a hen, all 6 were bought as pullets from a hatchery, no crowing as of yet - I have 5 others that have combs but they are not as distinguished or red as this one's, from pictures I have seen it doesn't have roo tail feathers and the cheeks look more hen like, it is about the same size as the others maybe a little biggee but not really noticeable unless they are all together, all very friendly - what you think....

I could go either way on this one, but I'm going to guess cockerel. Some of the feathers look like they are getting pointy. How long has the comb been red like this?

Comb and cheeks have really grown and been red for about 2wks - the lady I got them from has a couple laying hens she said are similar when is it normal to start crowing? Guess I will have to wait for that to be sure.

I have a few RiR that have just hit 18 weeks, and they have the same sized combs. But I do think that of the 3 straight run, 1 is a roo. Any thoughts?

Notice the longer, pointier feathers on the neck...

...and pointier tail than the other...

Possible RiR in the middle-right, likely hen middle-left.

I was hoping he would be a meatier bird, I'd like to start breeding RiRs but he's pretty scrawny. I've got several other hens that are pretty big, but a big rooster is critical for a quality dual-purpose, or so I've read.

I actually think they are all looking like pullets right now. A little suspicious of number 1, but at 18 weeks a cockerel should be more developed. So most likely all pullets.
