find out what breeds make up your furry fido here

Well....most breeds out there were developed by mixing other breeds together to form essentially a mutt with certain traits, usually for hunting a particular kind of animal or for working with domestic animals. They only became "purebred" when those mutt mixes started breeding true and were developed over many years, then someone started recognizing them as a breed and pushed for a standardization of that particularly type of dog until it could be recognized officially as a breed.

So....those purebred working dogs bred to hunt were bred by someone in the distant past from combing other types of dogs together. All dogs bred for a specific purpose are designer dogs if you study their history, though they didn't coin that phrase until here recently.
if you want a specific type of performance breed, you already have many to choose from. there is no point in trying to make a new dog. most curs do not even breed true and cant even be displayed because of this. and still people are just breeding more dogs, when there are many that can be adopted, trained and used for those functions. there are enough dog breeds out in the world, why try creating another? if you want to make "cur" dogs a breed, you might as well make "designer" dogs a breed. and yes purebred recognized dogs were mixed to create a purebred dog, but the major difference is that, currently, you already have dogs that can succeed at those tasks they were originally created for; its not needed anymore. so what's the point in starting a new breed-creating process for performance? it was already done for you, and you would help out more by adopting dogs from shelters.

whats the point in mixing breeds if dogs meeting those requirements already exist?

my dog is a mutt, and he meets the requirements for being a treeing cur by the looks of it. they actually dont specify that a dog cannot have pitbull in them or anything of the sort. to the contrary, they allow anything as long as it meets the specifications. going by that, i already have a treeing cur straight out of nature without having to bother to breed a bunch of dogs. i could have just as easily adopted him. he was actually a stray who showed up by my home.

This is my newest addition, Pig. He's got a funny little bark that is a trademark of one of the breeds in his mix and he weighs about 45lbs. This is probably an easy one though!

My last post I made to you was not as well written as I would have liked. I was a bit on the tired side when I replied, I apologize for it upsetting/confusing you (at least it seems it did). Many skills can't be trained into a dog, some things require a innate sense to do them. A instinct to chase, herd, swim, tree or point are all things that are more instinctual, more dependent upon the parents skill and grandparents skill rather than all the teaching in the world. Another point for 'designer breeds' and curs is that so many of the purebreds are littered with health issues and "skill decline" (losing the ability to perform their original purpose), outcrossing is needed and will become more common in the future. Many good breeders will tell you "designer breeds" are a wonderful thing, as long as the breeder is mixing 2 breeds to better the future offspring, reduce issues and adhere to the well being of their dogs and their dogs offspring, It's no different with any animal, we see this fact displayed in chickens beautifully, hybrid chickens lat better, eat less and out preform the purebreds even though the purebreds have been around longer than the hybrids, because they carry the skill of both parents, they get all of the assets whilst they minimalize the down falls. This is why Curs are wonderful; a few types are recognized as a breed. Many types of Curs are shown and have a lineage that dates back to the 1800's. There is no reason to just the ignore and discredit the whole group of dogs by the fact that some are bred for a utilitarian purpose (accomplished by cross breeding) instead of adhering to a breed standard.
