This afternoon I let my ducks and chickens out of the run at around noon and everyone appeared fine. But at around 3:30ish I took a break from household chores and decided to feed particularly the ducks swimming in their water tank (pond). I grabbed a head of lettuce as usual and noticed that one duck, my favorite as well and my boyfriends favorite, not waking up to one of her favorite treats. Her head was sitting very low to the water and several times I noticed it down so far that water entered her nostrils and she had to sneeze it out. I panicked and splashed some water on her hoping she was just quite sleepy and she did perk up. She lifted her and a chest out of the water, quacked a few times and flapped her wings but within a minute she went back to lethargically floating around the water, so much so that she floated into the stones they use to get out of the tank and she didn't flinch. I removed her from the water and she couldn't walk, she looked as though she would try but couldn't do it. I've since moved her into the house in a large box with plenty of bedding and a bowl of Electrolyte water where she has been sleeping since I moved her here. But even when carrying her into the house she was behaving strangely, she stuck her neck out very stiff and straight and then it got droopy, normally our sweet duck tucks her head under our chins to snuggle. I checked the area and saw nothing strange that they could have gotten into that I could tell but they are free ranging birds so there is a possibility I could have missed something. The closest vet who treats ducks is 2 hours away and cannot see her until tomorrow morning but I'm afraid she won't make it until then.
Is there any advice anyone has to help me get our girl through the night? This is one of the best birds we have ever had and we would absolutely hate to lose her.
