Can you tel boys from girls???

I have raised guineas for many years.. I used to hatch and sell keets . as many as 300 per season..

Your response in the second post is right on.

I just want to add, this is not fact or scientific, but it always seemed to me that the pied ones were mostly females ..

It took me a few years, but I managed to breed an all white flock.. just something I had to try ..

BTW, guinea hens are the worst mothers. If you can, take the keets away and raise them on their/your own.
chickens do not make a good substitute either. the keets just normally will not stay with a hen .

the best substitute mother I ever had was a Royal Palm turkey hen. (long story)

If I had to choose between my chickens and the guineas, I would keep the guineas..,

Out of approximately 15 eggs that I hatched from my white hen, I got 10 pearl pied, the others pearl. So, the 100% pied rule did not follow in my case. My males are solid purple and lavender. Surprisingly, my lavender x lavender matings have also not produced 100% lavender. Maybe the cackle hatchery genetics are wonky.

I've also had a lot of perquack/come-back (aka buckwheat, which sounds nothing like buckwheat to me) at around the 5-6 week mark.

Interesting. Maybe there is more than one gene involved?

Yesterday one of the pied made the ""buckwheat"" type chirp, and this morning the smallest of the group, a pearl, made that sound too. So far it looks like I have a girl of each color. I agree it does sound like perquack lol

The other pearl makes the "ack" sound, so that must be a boy. I haven't heard the second pied make either sound yet, but it is a tad bit bigger than the female pied. Also, that one's head is s little bit pointier than the female. I'm guessing the second pied is a boy, but fingers are crossed that it's just a fast developing girl.

I have had flocks as many as 70 roaming the grounds here.

Once in awhile one WILL sound like "buckwheat" .
Don't expect them to actually talk like a parrot..
You have to use your imagination a bit .

don't be too critical,, after all, they are only birds..

as far as coloring goes.
if you purchased guineas, you have no clue of what went on where they came from..
it may take many generations to cleanse the genes, and then it may not be 100% ..
