Hellooo! Thanks for taking time to look at this. I need help on building a quail coop for 41 quails.
Ideas would be great.
Pictures would too.
Enough room for all of them. And since Males get aggressive over females, I have to build two, but I dont know how many males or females I have

I would just say 20.5 Sq. ft per cage.
How old do they have to be for me to be able to find which gender?
Thanks! Remember to give me alot of details because I'm new at this!

Which kind of quail do you have? I think most, or at least many, are possible to tell the sex from the feather markings. Otherwise, you'll need some other explanation from others about how to sex them.

For coop ideas with visual, check one of the threads here about quail coops or check some YT videos for chicken/duck/quail coops.

Coturnix quail come in many colors. The common brown color also known as pharaoh is easy to tell between weeks 3 and 4 normally. Males will have a solid rust colored chest while the females have a spotted chest. A&M coturnix are white with a dark spot on their head but you can't tell their gender by their color. There are quite a few more. Do you know the name of the color or can you describe them?

Well, right now they're only about 2 weeks. I looked at a few of them and they seem to just have those dark brown spots, females? So far I haven't seen any males yet. I dont think I'm gonna have any A&M's. But right now I've been keeping them in a large box, and they're growing big very fast. I have no clue what to use for them!! Do you have any ideas? Thanks!

Since you didn't say what kind of coturnix you have I will assume you have brown ones, You can tell the sex of them at around 3 weeks hens have a spotted chest and roosters have a solid rust color. If you had any A&Ms they would be white.

With 41 chick you can count on half of them being roosters so you need to determine how you want to raise them, any where from 1-3 to 1-6. I prefer to keep mine at 1 rooster to 5 or 6 hens. So your going to have a lot of extras rooster, I keep my extras on the ground till 6-8 weeks them sell them to people to eat.

For cages I prefer all wire 1/2" X1" on the bottom and 1" X 2" on the sides & top. I build mine 2' deep 10' long and 10" tall = 20 sq. ft. then divide that into 4 pens that are 30" each. That gives you 5 sq,ft. per pen. I have 6 or 7 birds in each with no problems, my water and feed are on the outside of the pen so that gives them more room also. I also build them were the eggs roll out the bottom front.
This type of pen cost me about $80 in material and takes about 5 to 6 hours to build.

Wow! Thanks, this is going to be very helpful

I do have brown ones. If they are going to be A&M's would they be white now? Because I'm not seeing any of them that are white

What are the chances of getting white ones? I'm going to start building the coop next week. How long do I have to keep the light on them for? Well, in the meantime, I hope they all stay alive!!

A&M coturnix are yellow like an Easter duckling at birth and feather out to white. You would know right away in a new born. Sounds like you have pharaoh coloration.

Yeah, they're probbobly Pharoh's. Unfoturnately I found one dead this morning :( (It was cold.) Now I have 40 left.

Love your pens.... Question on your feeders?? Can't tell from your pic... Did you cut a whole in the wire? We use 1/2" x 1/2" all over.. Due to snake population.
We put a 5 gal. bucket with the top cut off for sand... Our first quail did well think they were a little smaller than the ones we have now... We have been having a harder time keeping the pens clean.

My A&M were white at birth.... But like you Coturnix Quail I was confused on what was what... And it took my birds to get to 4 to 5 weeks old before I could tell the Roo's from the Hens... Good luck with your coop... Keep us posted.
