Raising Ducks?

Ducks are one of my favorite animals, and I really want them. But I need information on them, I have done lots of research. But I would like to know some basic information

How much room do, let's say 4 or 5 Indian runners or Anconas need?
Can ducklings eat chick food? I read that they could as long as it isn't medicated.
Where to buy ducklings, hatchery or farm? If hatchery, which do you recommend?
And any other tips you could share is greatly appreciated!

I live in Virginia, so if anyone has any ducks for sale in Virginia please tell me. I am looking for Indian runners or Anconas but Pekin ducks are OK too.

Ducklings can eat chick starter but you MUST add extra niacin in the form of Brewer's yeast to avoid leg problems. The easiest thing to do is go to Tractor Supply or your local feed store and get waterfowl starter, then you don't need to add anything.

You can buy ducklings online at any of the major hatcheries, but keep in mind that they will need to be kept inside in a brooder for a few weeks, and we are heading into fall, so you would be putting them outside around October, when it starts to get cold.
I think buying ducklings in Spring is best so that you have all summer to be outside with them, get to know them and let them learn the lay of the land.

As far as space - the more the better! And be sure to go to the Predators and Pests forum here on BYC to learn EVERYTHING you can about how to protect them. Because something WILL come after them.
And be ready to provide clean swimming water daily.

My advice is just READ READ READ every post here! Hundreds of posts!!!

Thanks! I do understand something grabbing them, we just lost three chickens to a raccoon. And OK, I guess I will wait for next spring.
