Help? Breed.

I love a mystery. I raise several breeds, including New Zealands. These look like NZs to me, but the photos show a certain "plushness" of the fur that suggests that there may be something else in the bloodline...possibly Rex influence?
 
It is a bit weird; I keep trying to think if I've seen anything that really looked like that. Many, many years ago, I had some Harlequins that surprised the heck out of me with some babies that had Astrex coats; they looked nothing like that. The closest I can get was some Holland Lop babies that had some Fuzzy Lop in their backgrounds; the coats looked disheveled until they got long enough to make it obvious that this was Angora, not normal, fur. But by the time they were 5 weeks old, the hair was clearly Angora type, and these bunnies are more than 5 weeks old. With these rabbits, it's like the guard hairs haven't got the wherewithal to make the coat lie down. In the Rex, the texture doesn't result from a lack of guard hairs; there are lots of guard hairs, they are just short.

There are Angoras that are commercial type under all the fluff, but the ones I'm thinking of (French and Satin) have lots of very long guard hairs.
