Black Sex Link Walking Issues

I see improvement!

Looks like she is moving around fairly well. Her upright perky tail and walking around is a huge difference from the first photo when you started. Keep up the good work.

If it is an injury/sprain, it can take several weeks for them to get back to normal.

Keep us posted on her progress.

Thank you....after an injury can it take a while to lay again? I used the dog kennel some today (and we have had tons of rain!!!) and I did see her eat some feed in there but overall you can tell she has lost some weight. I have given her some tuna and cheese the last two days but are there some other foods that are good to help her get back on track?

My other issue is she is now putting herself on the high perch but she won't get down. It's like she stands to try on any ledge but won't attempt. It makes me wonder if that may have been how she potentially injured herself and she is scared?! I feel she probably needs time but the issue with this is she can't get to food/water that way unless I tShe her down...and she keeps immediately going to get back up there after a few minutes unless I am able to let them out in the yard.

Yes... I was so happy to see her "join the crowd" when I was throwing out bread today and she didn't completely shy away!

The perch where she likes to sit.

Thanks again for your comments. I have found them very encouraging and helpful!

It's possible that she may stop laying due to injury. She very well could be hesitant to jump from the roost if she is injured, you will have to try to help her down or keep her kenneled if that's not possible.

Mine laid her egg throughout her leg injury, but I knew what was the cause of her limping, I saw her do it. She could also go up on the roosts, but wouldn't come down, just cluck and carry on, so at night I would let her roost with everyone, then in the a.m. go into the coop, get her off the roost, take her outside and place her in the kennel - she became a bit spoiled. Now if I go into the coop for any reason in the mornings before they have come off the roosts, she clucks and get into position for me to take her down, even though she has been getting down on her own for months now ( I think she likes the attention).

As far as weight, you can give her an all flock/flock raiser feed or some non-medicated chick starter - these have higher protein than layer feed, it can take a little while to gain weight back, so just make sure she is eating and drinking well.

I do hope she gets better.

Just wanted to update that our chicken is doing great. She is now getting up/down on the coop and outside perches independently, coming out in the morning on her own, and is loving life grazing with the other girls! Her poops are starting to look regular and she seems so much happier. Thank you again for all the help and encouragement!!
