prayer warriors (following Jesus Christ, everyone welcome)

Yes, pretty much

I hadn't heard of Strawberry Alarm Clock either
I saw Skillet in concert.

Do you get air 1? My favorite over air station. So much fun to see a bunch of little freaks (like you probably) worshiping God!

My son told me it was easier to dress different then to be made fun of for no reason...

Awesome :thumbsup They're coming here in March and I'm so excited! :D

Yeah, we get Air 1 :) But I mostly listen to IHeartRadio on my phone.
Haha, yeah I guess I am a "little freak"

does this passage apply?

Matthew 23 NASB

[SUP]13 [/SUP]“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. [SUP]14 [/SUP][Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.]
[SUP]15 [/SUP]“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, that is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple is obligated.’ [SUP]17 [/SUP]You fools and blind men! Which is more important, the gold or the temple that sanctified the gold? [SUP]18 [/SUP]And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, that is nothing, but whoever swears by the offering on it, he is obligated.’ [SUP]19 [/SUP]You blind men, which is more important, the offering, or the altar that sanctifies the offering? [SUP]20 [/SUP]Therefore, whoever swears by the altar, swears both by the altar and by everything on it. [SUP]21 [/SUP]And whoever swears by the temple, swears both by the temple and by Him who dwells within it. [SUP]22 [/SUP]And whoever swears by heaven, swears both by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.
[SUP]23 [/SUP]“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. [SUP]24 [/SUP]You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!
[SUP]25 [/SUP]“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence. [SUP]26 [/SUP]You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also.
[SUP]27 [/SUP]“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. [SUP]28 [/SUP]So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, [SUP]30 [/SUP]and say, ‘If we had been living in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ [SUP]31 [/SUP]So you testify against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. [SUP]32 [/SUP]Fill up, then, the measure of the guilt of your fathers. [SUP]33 [/SUP]You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?
[SUP]34 [/SUP]“Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city, [SUP]35 [/SUP]so that upon you may fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. [SUP]36 [/SUP]Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

Oh, yeah....that made my stomach cramp up a little :(

This is one I'm handing over to God to show me what to do; I'm not at all ready to even know where to start on that...no winder I couldn't find any "false doctrine" there; its not the doctrine, its the attitude!

But, I GOT to go to a happy place, filled with guitars and pianos, weirdo hugging, big screen TV on the wall with lyrics for songs I didn't know, and it was the happiest I've been in church for a long time... And the sermon was on discipleship, and included Matthew 23:8-12... Go figure ;)

Youth groups, Sunday school, Bible study... I might not go back to the other church, but I feel obligated to at least attend with DH every other week or something so I'm not totally abandoning the assembly and whatnot, but that leads me to wonder if I can worship in a place that makes me feel so...hypocritical.

Whew, I'm going to be praying hard on this one and could use all the help I can get. If anybody wants to include me in their prayers for guidance, that would be wonderful :)

My hubby uses Pandora a lot. Are they playing with others? Strawberry Alarm Clock sounds fun, OCAP!

I guess since I'm kinda old (43) I keep it simple mostly. Surprised I even use the web.... But you should see my egg spread sheet!
big_smile.png

I gave up my phone as a choice to help live within my means.... We are directed not to go into debt. I still owe $ on houses and a car.

Romans 13:8 Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

Yes, I usually try to read things in their context (the last thing about winking)... but they aren't always that way when they pop in my head. Especially if I never needed to look deeper before.

@shortgrass Why do you feel hypocritical?

Awesome that you had a good time!!

Even with all the creepy huggers!

I think you can worship any where you are... Paul said he's learned to be content in any situation.

And like you said.... handing it over to God, who knows your heart so deeply. He will lead you both in a direction that glorifies Him!

If you get a chance to hook up with MOPS, mothers of preschoolers.... one of the most fun programs ever and very affordable. I would even sponsor.

It's a half day out usually at the church. Child care is provided while you have refreshment, some fellowship learning, do a craft. And only once a month, with other ladies who are also raising kids. Probably has nothing to do with Berean. Here is a link to their site to check in your area if interested.

I like Pandora too. Yeah, they're playing with two secular guest bands, Sick Puppies and Devour the day. There music is a lot better then their names  And for not being Christian bands most their songs seem clean and have good meaning.

It's kinda nice when Christian bands can cross over and draw a crowd that otherwise might not ever get a seed planted. Sure has changed my life for the better to find out I didn't have to hear opera. And to get away from the sappy love songs of christian radio that just didn't work at that time in my life....

Now, yes.. I have been to metal and rock concerts to. So stay safe if you're going!

Some of the people on here are comparing tattoos with vanity. But to me they're a way of expressing yourself. As an artist I think the human body really is an ultimate canvas to express your loves and interests. So does having tattoos and piercings make you not a humble person? Shouldn't being humble or vain have more to do with your heart and actions then the way you express yourself as an individual? I'm not trying to argue with anyone because it really is a personal decision between you and God. And your reasons behind wanting or getting tatoos and piercings can make a difference in if they are right or wrong to have. So basically my question is where do we draw the line between just expressing ourselves (through body modification, hair, clothing, exc.) and being prideful people full of vanity?
God says your body is a temple, so I look at tatoos like grafitti. And on GOD'S TEMPLE no less.

Yikes lol, I wear my heart on my sleeve that much?!?

Well... It does sound stuffy when you put it like that, but you know, I think it's more just plain fear of failure. We have both failed God so much in our lives, and had so much trauma, that we cling to the one thing we know for sure will never leave us or forsake us. He's shy, I'm hearing impaired; we are just naturally anxiety prone, but I wouldn't say insecure... But maybe, lol we both have our quirks
wink.png

You know, to me, the swimming thing is just the way I like it. The girls can swim, that's not what I was meaning. I meant I don't like to show my body in front of other men in what is essentially my underwear; its not because my husband says so, its my choice. But on the other hand, I do know that my husband doesn't like other men looking at my body, so I cover myself appropriately in public. Appropriate to me being no thighs and no bare backs or cleavage. That's also because I gave a stupid tattoo running the entire length of my spine and I am embarrassed of it and don't like people noticing me because of it. I don't like being looked at, period. Call me paranoid lol, I'm just a private person
wink.png

I submit to my husband, not because I fear him, but because I love him. He takes care of my every need. He doesnt deny me of really anything, and he cherishes me. Sure, we have our moments, but I have learned that sometimes it's better to just keep the peace than it is to be selfish. Our of respect for our marriage and him, I obey God. If God wants me to submit to my husband, I will. Because I love him.

Same with God. If I love him, I will obey him. If God wants me to be modest and not cause a stumbling block for others, I will. It's pretty straightforward to me, but I do see your point on love. I'm afraid some might not understand our ways and misconstrue it as holier than thou when its just preference.

But working on it still .the LAST thing I want is to come off as a hypocrite
sad.png
On the subject of swimming, I only ever wear a t-shirt and shorts to go swimming. Not for modesty issues, but mostly because finding a decent one is a pain in the butt, and we almost never go swimming anyway. It is Colorado, after all...

By example through my faith....

@EggSighted4Life , yes we are saved by grace, but I want to look closer at that, if we could....

Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Through faith... Ok, so what's that?

1 John 2:1-6

2 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Ok, next lets look at 2 Timothy 2:20-26

20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. 21 Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

Now, the big one, James 2:14-26

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”

Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

(Deeds=works, sorry about the translation)

Next, Romans 10:10-17

10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”[h] 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. 18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did:

“Their voice has gone out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.”

And 1 Peter 2:11-12
11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Last but not least, Titus 3:1-8
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

Now I understand what DH has been doing. And I'm not at all ashamed of covering my body or teaching my children to do the same. We have a calling to show by example, and to love God, and to love God is to love and obey his word, and teach it to others.

We ARE saved by grace, THROUGH FAITH

*edit to highlight some things

I'm a little suprised you didn't find Romans 6, shortgrass!
wink.png

Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Rom 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Rom 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

So.......... the only thing they have in common is the word "band" or maybe "music group"
