Hello, would like some ideas on the nutrition required for my chickens going into the fall and winter months. They are in very good shape, what vitamins could be added to the diet to help with their overall condition, thanks.

My answer is Adding nothing......Keep feeding as usual....I live in North Central Alberta, Canada.....Brrrrrrr!
When temps are dipping Below -20 Celsius and a Wind Chill of -30 Celsius I give a little scratch grain with corn...Other than that, Chickens do great!!

Cheers!

I up the protein a bit in the fall to help them through the molt a little quicker with mealworms or by mixing in some higher protein grower formula with their regular feed. I also add BOSS to their scratch.

I have had good luck with fermenting scratch. I feed a bit of the water-soaked grain. Even if it freezes solid, it can be picked apart, where as the fermented crumbles, just froze in a solid block, and mine did not eat it. The soaked grain, helped them get a bit of extra moisture too.

Wind breaks, really help. Encourages them to go out, get some exercise and fresh air. Makes them eat better.

I think the weather does influence how much they eat. I try and do it so that at night, there is very little left in the bowl. If empty, I feed a bit more the next day, if still quite a bit left, I feed less.
