Hi, I only own a hen (one) and it's been almost 3 years now, I hand raised her since she was a chick and she's always been a family pet. A few months ago I moved to Mississauga and yesterday some animal control officers came to my door (apparently someone saw my chicken and I walking around the front yard) and they demanded that I have my chicken disposed of, or they'll take care of the "business" for me. I don't really know what to do, I'm considering in sending her to a friend of mine who lives on a farm in Ajax, if Ajax doesn't work I'll have to reach another guy who lives in New Market, I really don't want to hand my pet over to these asinine fools who act so tough and think they're the police or something but really they're no more than a parking lot security guard, what do you guys think? Am I committing a crime? How do I deal with them if they come back in a week? This is giving me a headache...

What are the laws concerning keeping chickens in your neighborhood?

grrr this reminds me of a duck dynasty episode.
is your chicken being noisy or "disturbing" neighbors?
is your chicken pooping in other's yards?
is your chicken damaging any property?
is your chicken breaking any laws?

All depends on the zoning laws where you live. You'd be safest to move her off your property before they come back if it is against ordinances to have a chicken there.

Good luck!

Check the local laws regarding poultry! Don't hand her over to anyone! I would think they have no say in who or how you choose to keep her if you keep her in the house!
