Runner/Pekin Crosses - Color?

LOL - it would sure be a lot more useful if the color difference manifested earlier! I've been hoping to get some eggs from this group so I can hatch them...will post an update if/when I do.

Lol i imagine! Maybe you could try the day old experiment sammi mentioned :D

If it was the other way around (fawn/white runner drake and pekin hen), the hen ducklings would be brown+blue (lavender) and the male ducklings would be blue, at hatch. Sexable as day Olds. :)

Hello, I am hatching some eggs from my blue Swedish drake and 1 blue and 2 black runner hens. 3 from my blue girl and two from each of my blacks, so I'm researching runner crosses so I can get an idea of the possible body types and how cross breeding works.

Color wise, you could get black, blue and/or silver from the blue hen, and black and/or blue from the black hens.
Body type, they should be more slender and upright than the Swedish, but not as slim or upright as the runners.

I'm excited to see what you get from them! You will have so many different colors! :D
It's been a while, but thought you'd want to see what the next gen looks like...like you said, so many colors! I think there are 2 fawn/white, 2 blue/white, 1 black/white, and 2 brownish (maybe dusky?). A veritable rainbow! :)

This is an old thread I know but WOW that's crazy, I bred my f&w drake to my black runner and all the ducklings are dark gray and white, light gray and white, or a really warm and dark auburn and white (all white bits are yellow still lol)! Its funny how similar our clutches turned out when you mate either an all black or all white (pekin) to a fawn & white!

I saw earlier in this thread someone said that if you bred a f&w male to pekin female the brown sex-linked would show up in the female, so here's hoping that's the same with my babies, most of them are showing a bit of brown/dusky hopefully I don't end up with all drakes (not that there's anything wrong with a bachelor party lol)

was there any sex-linked trait in your second generation?

Adorable! :love

As I think back on it, the drakes all had brown in their coloring, and the ducks didn't. Hope you end up with lots of ladies!
