Making Money Selling Chicks

Well you would need to disinfect it thrououghly before use and check that they aren't just selling you a broken incubator....

Yep I would probably just put a barnyard mix in so that the chicks won't really matter if something happens

Home made incubator would be better. There is a kit that makes it easy, all in one preset heater and fans. Make a box and slap it in. You'll need auto turners too.

This one is for larger incubators and can be expanded for full size cabinets. There is a $50 model that fits in table top incubators, suitable for 42 egg auto turner. That old one may work but it's going to be finicky with temp, you'll need to adjust it during incubation. Does not come with auto turners so basically your purchasing a wooden box with an old heater. May not even have a fan. Building a box is easy and the cost of preset unit I posted is less than what your looking at, plug and play, no hassle.

There isn't really any money to be made in chickens. You can hope for paying for your coops, repairs, feed, bedding and buying your father some tools in exchange for his free labor. You can charge more if quality birds. That requires breeding to standard of perfection and purchasing quality stock from the get go. Your taking on too many breeds to be successful at that. Narrowing scope and breeding for quality will increase profits. Less coops, and more money per bird. To breed to standard you need to hatch and grow out many birds to choose very few breeders. The space required for one breed is usually more than a person can achieve let alone 4 or 5 breeds.

Try finding a cabinet Brinsea, which is second hand- they are a lot more reliable and consistent when compared to polystyrene incubators, and you can add a tray of eggs every week, which would give you a consistent supply of chicks throughout the spring.
Looking to start raising chicks myself. Debating wether to do an incubator/hatch and have 3 or do a cabinet incubator. If using a cabinet incubator and adding eggs each week, how does it work as far as humidity differences for lockdown vs the rest of the hatching?
