Egg Cart'n chicken tractor?

I am looking into buying the Egg Cart'n chicken tractor. I have been hesitant because of price-ouch! But it would be the perfect transitional coop for young pullets. I am raising 13 pullets right now, 4 of them mine. They are 4 weeks old and it would be nice if soon, they could be outside. I have a nice stationary coop with attached run and I add an additional electric poultry fence area that I can move in different configurations--but these are where the adult birds are. So I see the Egg Cart'n tractor as a temporary raising pen. I read the other posts and yes it would be great for a sick or injured bird coop, a brooder and I've even thought of using it to raise a few midget white turkeys! I think I'm sold and ready to take the plunge on buying one.

We love ours.

I am intrigued by the chicken tractor being sold by Randall Burkey. It is called the "Egg Cart'n" and supposedly holds 12 standard hens. Personally, I think it looks a little small for 12 hens, but it appears to be very sturdy. And, unfortunately, it is anything but cheap, but it looks to be better than the product sold by Omlet. I am curious whether anyone on this forum has seen or used this product.

The price is a bit scary that being said I think you are buying a quality product. If I could justify the price I would definitely consider buying one. I would build my own using that as a template before I would lay out that kind of cash. My Scotish heritage is showing again.

I am pretty much convinced that I want an Egg Cart'n Classic, but I wanted to ask the owners of the Egg Cart'n to answer a question: How hard is it to keep it free of mites, since it does have some wooden parts? I have been reading the horror stories on this site about treating wooden coops and the chickens in them for mites and I am terrified! The stories make mite infestations seem so widespread and terrible that I wonder if this budding interest of mine is even worth it. I would only want to get chickens if I have a chance in H-E-Double hockey sticks of keeping them healthy. If I have to spend hours and hours trying to eradicate a pest that seems more zombie than insect I would go insane! I can handle treating the birds, I think, but I am more likely to light a match and burn an infested coop. So, what do you think Egg Cart'n owners? Do I spring for an Egg Cart'n, which is my first choice, or wait for an Eglu Cube (all plastic)?
