My wife and I have 4 ISA brown hens. They have been laying for little over a month now. At first we had a few soft eggs and a few tiny eggs but all 4 have been laying good eggs for the last few weeks. The last couple days ive found a soft egg in the coop. Today i had two soft and two good eggs, i checked again late morning and found a third good egg. So i had a total of 5 eggs from my four chickens today. Is it possible one could have layed twice? They have a good layer feed and i have oyster shell avaliable to them. They dont get many treats or scraps. The treats they get are a forage mix that i grow for them that has grasses and clover or they get some black sunflower seeds. Once in a while they get lettuces, kale, or spinach greens.

It definitely is possible that one hen laid two eggs especially if one didn't have a shell. The application of the shell takes the majority of the 26 hours or so that it takes to make an egg.

Soft eggs often happen as hens are starting to lay or winding down for the season. Another cause can be stress or loud noises which can cause eggs to come out before they are ready. It should stop after a bit as the hens become more familiar with the sensations and the tissues stretch out.
