Hi there,
I have one female call duck, about 9 months old. She is accompanied by her husband, Pierre, a 9 month old saxony/khaki cross. He is a bit bigger than her, but he is very, very gentle when it comes to mating with my call. He is such a protector and absolutely loves his wife. My call duck laid her first egg about 11 days ago, and since has had 4 more. I am leaving them in the nest now in hopes that she will go broody. Is it too early in the season for her to go broody? We have had an extremely mild winter with temps in the 50s, 60s, and even up in the 70s! I am hoping that this will get her going broody, but no signs yet. Should I wait for later in the season and take these eggs out of the nest, or should I leave them there in hopes that she will sit. I want baby duckies!!!

Do you have an incubator?
The concern would be that the first egg is now at least 11 days old -- and there is a decline in viability that comes with age of the egg. I would suggest marking the eggs so you know when each is laid and can take out the oldest if it takes a while for her to decide to brood. If you have an incubator you could take those that have been there more than a week and put them in the incubator and let the fresher eggs remain to build her clutch.

I don't have one, but my friend does. He has to order a cord for it and I'm afraid it will take too long to get everything set up to incubate these eggs. Thank you so much for your reply!
