Mine looked just like that, except one who had and now has more of a reddish coloring on her face.I bought them from TSC, no clue on heritage or anything. The box was marked Asian chicks. Some are solid black but a few have white tips.
The mostly black (and the ones with white tips, or white tips and chest down) have now all got varying degrees of the red brown. Most have it either fully in the chest, some also in the hackles. A couple have it in (pardon my poor wording) feather highlights--I mean some feathers are both black and also reddish.
On the other hand, 3 that I got that I presumed (if the chicks were even marked and separated correctly) to be male: 2 have turned out male with (@junebuggena s term) "atypical barring". The other that was suspected to be male and who looked exactly like the 2 actual males has turned out to be a BR pullet.
My conclusion?
I'm glad I got them.
They were not all labeled correctly.
They are sweet tempered, pretty and friendly birds.
I am still unsure (except for the surprise BR pullet) what all I have.
