In the Brooder
I got four point of lay barred rocks on Friday. They refused to come out of the coop until yesterday when two braved it and two took all day before being encouraged out. Today I opened the coup and two came out straight away. The other two had to be brought out again. Anyhow having watched them all day to ensure they settled I went into garden shed for five minutes, when I came out a very small perfect brown egg was on the grass (oval golf ball size). No one was looking obvious. The poultry farm I got them from said that it would be a few weeks at least before they were settled enough to lay as they hadn't laid an egg before.
A) how can I tell whose laying?
B) Is the egg size likely to get bigger
C) Will the others follow suit or is it an individual thing
D) At the moment they aren't good at getting back into the coop on their own (they have only been out the past two days) should I make a nest box outside ?
would apprieciate some advice on this please. thanks Deb
