The birds will make their own dust bin. And depending on how many birds, and how big your run is, the chickens may remove the grass for you. Whether you like it, or not.

Ours made their own "dust wallows" despite me providing them a cutesy turtle sandbox full of sand, DE, peet moss, and clean soil! So now we just sprinkle DE in their favorite spots and I scrubbed out the turtle, filled it with water and made them a watering hole
