Please Help

You can try to diffuse the attraction of the Houdans' different appearance by introducing something that is of equal appearance and attraction. Get creative. Look around the house and garage and see what resembles the Houdans. You might even be able to make something.

Badminton cocks come to mind. A couple of small feather dusters. You get the idea.

Sounds like your chicks need more space overall, if you're having persistent pecking issues. And they're bored! they need more space and things to occupy themselves, or they'll make trouble. Just like a Border Collie

Hi Friends! I returned the houdans to the brooder today and everyone started pecking at them immediately. They seem fascinated with their white and black "spots"and their top hats. They have some toys, treats, and other things to do but fixated on the Houdans spots. Any suggestions or should I just keep them separated until their bigger and outisde? Also, the Houdans didn't even fight back they just stood there like bing bongs while everyone was pecking them.

Yes.....Unfortunately not many people know that certain colours and breeds do not mix...Too many people do not understand that white or speckled will get picked on by more than likely Red birds...The saying holds true...Birds of a feather, flock together...;)... a crested white bird, is a sitting Duck...:(.....Chickens are mean...

The chances of this turning into a ridiculous debate is high..Too many feathers get ruffled..;)....lol...

PM me....I know Birds and will help you ..;)

27 babies, 4 weeks old tomorrow. Brooder is a 8x4 box I made out of osb and 2x4s. I have 4 that are roosting on the sides of the box now so I think it's time to cover with chicken wire.

They are responding to crowded conditions IMO. Can you move them to the coop? Perhaps hold the 2 houdans in the brooder, or put them in a fenced area in the coop until they are completely healed? You may need to rehome them.

I have a chicken tractor that is separate from my main coop. Once they start flying up to the sides of the box, out they go. I think yours are definitely old enough to go outside, if you can put them in something that the rest of the flock can see but not touch through. I do provide supplemental heat for mine, but it's set in such a way that they can get under it, or not, as they choose. I notice they do flock there at night (which sometimes gets into the 50's still) but run around the rest of the time. Good luck!
