I just don't have the skills and need some advice on purchased coops

My best advice is not to purchase a premade coop.
They are overpriced and all grossly over exaggerate how many chickens the building will hold. I often see coops that say they can hold 15 and they're barely adequate for 4.
They apparently are companies that do building but know nothing about chickens. Not enough ventilation and way more nest boxes than the chickens will need.
I like to tell them, "save the money on the nest boxes and make the coop better".

If you don't want to build from scratch, I have two suggestions.
If you have any skills at all, buy a prefab storage shed from a big box store and modify it to suit chickens.
Or
Go to the coops tab at the top of this page and peruse all the appropriately sized buildings people have made. Most have complete plans and bill of materials.
Then go on Craigslist and find a carpenter, show him/her the plans and have them build your ideal coop for yo
I would like to say, you could probably find a used shed, I wouldn't purchase a brand new one. you wanna keep your costs low. That's what I did.

How did you move it? I looked at that when we were first starting but the cost of hiring someone to load and move the shed was more than buying materials. And it still needs modification... They never have enough ventilation and often no windows.

This is what I really wanted to do! But after searching for almost a whole year I didn't find anything locally. I've still been searching craigslist and other sites to hopefully find one. My mom converted our old playhouse into a peacock coop when I was a teenager too so my dream is to have a coop large enough for me to walk inside.

I think you're right about the skill saw. Hope the "name" doesn't mean you have to have skills !!!!

Just to give you a bit of encouragement. I'm 5 feet tall and barely 90 pounds. I have three kids under 10. I get being busy.
I built these brooders

and this rabbit tractor

Using just 4 tools - a hammer, an electric screwdriver, a cordless reciprocating saw, and wire snips.
You don't need a husband to do it for you. If I can do this, you can too.

There you go girl. awesome job.

I agree I have personal seen build thread start where the op has no clue what there doing. Aart, Howard and many others jump in to help out. I try when I can. Now I saw those same op build some wonderful coops all with the help from this community. We all log in here from time to time to try in learn and help. The great thing is most of us have been in your same boat at one time or another and are here to help. So we can keep going on here. Or link us to that build thread when you start it. You can do more than you think

If the plans that you are working on will be available to the public, you are a life-saver! And very generous to be willing to share your ideas to make it easier for others like me who need things spelled out clearly. Good luck with your work. Hope you'll let me know how it all works out. Thanks.
