Mice feasting in my hen hutch.

Couldn't keep other hens from sitting on top of momma hen sitting on her eggs. Got her a private hutch. Now mice are eating in her feed and it's driving my dogs nuts cause they eat to get at the mice. Don't want to snap dogs or hen with a trap and don't want to poison and contaminate what might catch and eat the mouse. Any suggestions?

Use a 5 gallon bucket, pop can,peanut butter & sprinkle some of your chicken feed over the peanut butter,a string & a ramp for them to climb up. I would suggest using water instead of a poisonous liquid incase your chickens or dogs get into it.

The mice go for the peanut butter & fall into the bucket & drown.
No snap traps, no chemicals, and is safe for dogs & chickens. Get on Google and type in mouse trap with a bucket. Hope this helps! Please update how it goes! God Bless!
 
You can get repeating mouse traps at places like Tractor Supply or even your local hardware store. They are made to place along the walls or other places mice travel. There is no bait; they go through them because it looks like a safe place. So, no poison, the chicken can not get in there (way too big) and yes you will have to check it every day and kill whatever you've caught. They also make traps that work with batteries to electrocute the mice as they go in the trap; that one is filled with dead mice in the morning.

I had a repeating trap that had about 20 mice crammed into it one morning. I think they are quite effective. The only downside, you do have to kill them afterwards, but like I say, they make one that runs on batteries too.
 
We have a rat problem, but the thing we use is sold in a mice formula as well. It's called Rat X. It's not really a poison as it causes them to become dehydrated. You've got to keep it away from other animals though. We put it in a dish under a milk crate that's weighed down with something heavy so our cats and dogs don't get into it.

Me gotum rat problems. Judging from the holes in various places around the run perimeter, I'd say more than one. I know it's rats; I've seen them. They come out of the burrow, run across to the PVC feeder, & help themselves, whether chickens are around or not. Rat(s) pay no attention to chickens, chickens pay no attention to rat(s). I doubt they're active at night; the feed access is capped.

Right now, I'm using chunks of Just One Bite, placed far enough into what appears to be the primary exit that the birds can't get to it. I put it in there a couple weeks ago; saw a rat using the same hole day before yesterday.

Someone over on Sally's thread said he uses propane; you've likely seen his posts on the subject. Trouble is, he's such a clown I don't know when he messing around & when he ain't.

Any ideas?
 
Try the 5 gallon rat trap! No poison & no worry of other animals being hurt while you remove the rats. Drowning them is better death than being poisoned. Also if your dog finds & eats the poisoned rat, you'll have much bigger problems. Just hop on Google & type in- 5 gallon bucket rat trap

No dogs any longer, but thanks. I can't imagine chickens not eating all the peanut butter off the can, though. I'll check it out.
