MADE IN THE USA- challenge..

Anyway, I mean no offense to friends in other countries, but I think when all possible, we should BUY LOCAL!

Here's the challenge, next time you go to the store, see how many things you can BUY AMERICAN as opposed to buying MADE IN CHINA or elsewhere:

When I think of the job situation in this country I can't help but think this helps in some small way. I don't know how many households there are in the US but if these were the only things we bought think of the impact.... This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off brand labeled "Everyday Value" I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA. So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here - from a company in Cleveland OH ! So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets....yep you guessed it Bounce was more money and made in Canada, the Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

So my challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors! If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time ! Besides, you might save a little green in the process. Stop buying the crap from China people.......... We should have stopped a decade ago...... Lets get with the program.... Help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here.

Our local buys so far :
Bread made in Youngstown and a hoola hoop made here too. Also some local feed and food from theamish roadside stand right across the Pa state line. Oh how could i forget our Lordstown Chevy.

An excellent idea, Laska, which I adopted a few years ago, along with ditching plastic shopping bags for cloth ones and eating locally where possible. I don't even feed my dogs kibble 'cos too many of the ingredients have been 'manipulated' when off shore.

Maybe others can offer ideas of how they've managed purchase locally, too.

I will def start paying more attention to labels too.

luckily the FDA has approved that law that would require all food products to state where they were grown... hopefully they'll do the same with genetically engineered food! that's one thing you should definetly avoid more than buying things nonlocal - GE food is bad news

I have done this for years. It depends on the country, though. Canada and several of the European countries (among others) are good customers of the US and provide quality products, so I have no problem buying products from there.

That sounds great and I have been doing just that for awhile now, but since folks are starting to get wise about buying products from the asian countries, because of poor craftmanship, quality, tainted food, and other products that harm us. The WTO ( world trade organization ) have impose new regulation to prohibit american consumers from ever finding out where they come from. Example!! you are starting to see= assembled in-------- or the sellers co. not the country of origin.

What is happening is the world community is trying to hide from us where our goods are produced, and our government so far have help. I personally do not have a problem with products from some euro countries, But please China and many others in that area, are produced to either decieve, taint, or even cause me a heath hazard, all for price of a bowl of rice.

Why is that when old man Walton ( walmarts matriarch ) had his made in the USA painted everywhere nobody had a problem with it, now that he has passed, his heirs in waiting were tripping over themselfs to sell China to america. Funny thing is they have walmarts in China, try to find 1 american made product there!!!!. as soon as we make a move to improve our own workers the WTO and other countries start to friek out, I say let them friek out all they want, I want my job, MY family needs my job.

Sorry for the rant, but I have spent a few years in the east as part of a job, and I can tell you. it is a wasteland of filth and disease, 3rd world is what it is, it turned my stomach walking in the street. But it is safe to sell to us, it is a dogone shame is what it is.

Good luck. Try reading "A Year without China" good book everyone should read it, you're talking no birthday candles, no toys for the kids, etc. Plus just because something is assembled in the US there's a very good chance that the parts were made in China.



I mean it's so bad that you have to hunt long and hard for an American made American Flag, how's that for irony.
