I need help here. I am a white bread/potato person in any shape, size or whatever. Please help me to come up with some very tasty recipes for breakfasts, lunch and dinner and especially snaking! Do not even start to type unsalted popcorn, or nuts.

I have loaded up the fridge with fresh fruits and veggies but come on, what do I do when I want to have that crunch? HELP

The thought of giving up all these wonderful recipes on here just drives me nuts

OH, I only use olive oil, canola oil and that can of spray.

Try eatingwell.com or cooks.com. There all alot of good recipes on these. I also have high cholesterol and really try to avoid cheese and dairy but am also lactose intolerant so thats not too hard to do. Avoid frying and alot of red meat. Chicken without the skin. Boil, broil or grill. Alcohol can really increase the triglycerides.

Thanks joedie, you really simplified it for me. I was in the store today and reading bread labels. Iron Kids bread has less of everything, even over the whole grain breads, now that was confusing. I am a lover of white bread, pasta and potatoes...I guess that is how I gained all my weight.

I have started on Lipitor today but still want to watch the carbs, fats and sugars. Thanks for the tip on alcohol. I drink very little but now I guess it is EXTREMELY little.

I do love to cook with wine, beer and alcohol though so I need to see if this could continue.
Thanks so much!

I wouldn't worry about cooking with alcohol or even drinking it in moderation. I should have clarified that if you have a few drinks the eve before your fasting labs, the trig, may be high. Unless your a seriously heavy drinker, really not to worry. Red wine is supposed to be good for the heart!
I basically try not to fry foods, do not eat at fast food places, take my Lipitor, make the sign of the cross and eat the steak!

Replace red wine with red grape juice. Has same effects on the heart.

My thing is to eat nothing that comes out of a box. The other is, if I can't spell it, I can't eat it.

I do my best but I too can eat half a cow in one sitting, lol.

thanks, guys, my dh and I have said we could never be vegetarians as we get where we crave beef! Right now I am dying for a tri-tip..........on the grill with grilled veggies

Now does that mean I can't spray a bit of canola oil (in the spray can)and fry an egg???

Can I fry turkey bacon?? Can I eat the heart healthy pastas?

canola spray is fine for your eggs. If I remember correctly, canola is an omega 3 which is good for your heart. You can fry your turkey bacon but I like mine better when cooked in the microwave. Large egg white omlets with lots of veggies and a sprinkle of cheese. Fritattas! I feed the yolks (boiled) back to the chickens.

I can't really eat fried foods anymore. Wally World had a Funnel Cake wagon at the store the other day. Funnel Cakes are kind of a staple when you grow up in the NE. I couldn't even stand the smell of the oil.

I don't like the texture of whole wheat pasta but I do eat the one is like regular pasta with twice the fiber. It's pretty good. Big thing is portion contol.

Check out the Sonoma Diet or Mediteranian Diet. I've got a link to a "anticancer" diet that I will get for you.

I was so frustrated today as I didn't really think I had anything in the house to eat..that I wanted to eat! I love bologna sandwiches!! I had grilled scallops and shrimp and a salad for supper

My body thinks it is starving, though I received a thank you note from a graduate with my dh's and my photo with the grad in it.

Good lord, I didn't realize I was that big

I just want to eat what is good for me...mostly..LOL..and not have to buy a bunch of food. I have fruit but I am craving something more substantial..or I think I am? Thanks for the sites I will check them out.

The cancer site is a good source but I am wondering about the organic butter?? I am hoping that is a good one? I can make my own butter from fresh cow's milk but my daughter ( a nurse) told me last night on the phone to stay away from all milk over 1%. She also told me to stay away from processed meats but I could get deli meats from the deli if they were turkey, chicken, etc. Thanks to everyone I am now not feeling like I will starve

Not that living "off the land" would hurt me...I could go for probably a couple months without eating to lose this weight! I told daughter about the Med. diet and she said she had heard lots of good things about it so now I am off to look that one up. Thanks everyone

By using Coyote's advice, broil/grill and switching to a lot of anti-cancer foods I have lost four pounds since I first posted this! No more white potatoes for me. I am drinking lots of water, eating lots of fruit/veggies and adding chicken and fish to my daily intake. I am snaking on reg. things but in moderation ...I am also taking a fish oil capsule with each meal even though dr's don't seem to agree that it helps. I have blood work done again in six weeks so I will see what shows up then. I am not thinking of this as a "diet" but a life style change and finally got it into my head. Thanks for all the help here!
