As we all know, incubation settings for one person might not work so well for the next. Thus, the creation of this thread - a guide to help you manage your incubator settings. Perhaps some settings work better in certain climates, or for certain breeds... whatever the case, this thread is for documenting your settings, breed type, special circumstances that may have led to the hatch results you got, and other details.

Once we have enough postings, we can do a search by location if need be. If you live in Georgia and want to know what other folks use for humidity, just search for Georgia on the page. Incubating seramas? Do a quick word search and see what works best for other users.

Here are the questions to answer. If I have missed any, please let me know and I will edit this post.

Breed incubated: Gold-laced Polish
Number of eggs set: 10
Incubator used: R-Com 20 Pro
Date set: 28 August 2009 @ 1200

Temperature: 99.5 for first 17 days, 99 for last two
Humidity: 45% for first 17, 67% for last two
How many turns per day: Every 55 mins
Special circumstances (power outage, temp spike/dip, etc etc): Humidity dropped to 25% for less than an hour around Day 15
Your location and climate: East of England, temperate (40% humidity)
Hatch result/rate: 9/9; 100% hatch rate
Any pertinent extra details: None

If you feel that this can help you out in the future, please request this to be stickied. I think that this should help folks out when they are getting ready to set their eggs. If possible, try to just post stats on this particular thread - if you have questions about anyone's post, you can try PMing them and then they can edit their post to provide more information.

Hope this helps!

first time i read i get confused. then, i realize (if i'm not wrong) that cherlyn want everyone on BYC that have ever set their egg to share their full information on setting them include place and climate.

here are mine:

Breed incubated: Arabic chicken
Number of eggs set: 29
Incubator used: homemade bator
Date set: 26 August 2009

Your location and climate: West of Indonesia, temperate 32 deg (60% humidity)
Hatch result/rate: 9/29 , 31 % hatch rate
Any pertinent extra details: not check the shell, give them 3 more days chance then just buried them under backyard.

Breed incubated: New Holland reds, Blue X Orpingtons, Black Orpingtons

Any pertinent extra details: chicks hatched over 4 days with the bulk of them hatching on days 20 and 21. Last chick to hatch was sticky and I helped it .I have never seen this before.

GREAT IDEA and should be invaluable in determining HUMIDITY percentages in various locales! When I incubate again, I will add my info!

Yes, this would make a good "sticky" once enough information has been added.

Breed Incubated: Mixed
Number of eggs set: 3
Incubator: R-Com Mini 3 egg
Date set: I dont have the dates ATM
Number locked down: 3
All fertile
Temperature: 37.5 degrees celsius
Humidity: Automatically controlled, but no display of it shown
How many turns per day: Every hour.
Special circumstances: none what soever
Your location and climate: East England, in mid-summer
Hatch result: 66.66%
Any pertinent extra details: All 3 fertile, 2 hatched, one was DIS- probably due to the incubator's small size, the other chicks started to move around quite alot, making the egg messy, dirty and moving probably causing damage to the chick inside

You have to keep bumping this as a reminder til people get in the habit - here's my bump...

I didn't keep close records this hatch. So maybe next.
