**First egg to pip on 5/17 was the last to hatch, 36 hours later. The air cell was under her feet... good thing I helped a little, she had zero room to move! (just finished the ring & tore the tough membrane, then misted with warm water where the membrane was dry).

Hrmmm it won't let me edit prior post...hatched 11 out of 13 locked down...didn't open the 2 Javas-gave them to a broody who became unbroody within a few days, long enough to know they weren't coming out. They were silent

. Gave the 11 to another broody. All very happy now. Hatch rate 61%

Currently have 21 in RCom 20, 4/20/14; candled at 5 days and removed 3; one was wet on delivery, and weepy at 5 days and totally scrambled on inspection (these eggs were extremely well packed and the box was intact, so??); one had a hole in it, taped over but failed to grow, and one with what looked like an early blood ring (adding pic from phone). Needed room to let them lie down for turner, and expected to remove a few. (paid for 12, got 24! Yay @DMRippy !)
CCL/SBEL/OE
99
45%
Turner off first 5 days.
few gtts GSE (grapefruit seed extract) in half gallon filtered water for filling RCom. (does anyone use distilled water? I found UK instructions online, where I read that warranty is void if you don't)

In pumphouse.
Buffys x 26 99.5/45%/no turn x 5 days. Plan to hatch @ full moon.
Started turn after candling:
5 Blood rings :(
4 clear
3 ? Could be early Dev or BR.
It IS early to candle, so all clears I left in.
At 7 days removed clears & 2 br, 1 of the 3?'s had nice veining, so 16 good devs for now.
Why so many BRs? Older parents? (~3 years). Dirty coop? Rcom is super clean.
6/9 Omg RCom 109°! Very hot day out. Brought bator in house & began lockdown. Fingers crossed.
Need to insulate pumphouse or forego hatching May-Oct.

Yay there is life! Last night I candled one & saw no details; then it peeped. Two have hatched & a third pipped. We have Friday the 13th Full Moon chicks!

Hello does any one know how long the chick has to say in the incubator before being moved to a brooder .
I have one little fellow just hatched and cheeping like mad how long till i can give him a cuddle!!!!:)
thanks

If he's the only one do it now just keep him warm & dry. If there are more to hatch wait 3 days. Hatching 101 might have more info. I haven't hatched my own for a few years...and this year I gave them to broodies at day 3.
Enjoy!

March hatch; ~18 mixed Marans, hatched 5; 3 cockerels, two hens, splash hen developed sinus infection? at about 16 weeks & had to be put down. Also had 4 Pekin duck eggs, started 1 week ahead for same lockdown date. Two developed, one hatched, Drake, hot after my hens at 20 weeks. Sold with the 3 cockerels!

July hatch49 buff bantam faverolles eggs; 4 hatched, likely crossbred, only one has 5 toes, with poor separation.
36 eggs sent to originator of breed, hoping hers turn out better.
Calibrating RCom!
(Yes this has become my logbook; I can always find it!)
