The "skins" are from the moulting process....it's not dead worms, so nothing to worry about. It's actually good...means your worms are healthy and growing! I have been raising mealworms for almost two years, and I have always kept mine in a mixture of starter crumbles and oatmeal, with my potato on top. There are TONS of posts on BYC about how to do it, but mine are just in shoe boxes, all stages together. I have multiple boxes....I use worms from one for a little while, then move to another box while that one "recuperates". By the time I have cycled through all three boxes, the first one is ready again. EASY, EASY, EASY!!!! I don't like to make things complicated....it just makes me lose interest....so the simpler, the better!!
