Chickens and rain. Will they get sick if they get wet?

yes its fine cause when you have something to keep the rain off them they go into the rain to scratch yes its fine:cd

I also fussed over my chickens this morning, was going to keep them in their run, but....... they wanted out, soooooooo dispite me fussing they are out free ranging. they can go back in their coop if they want, but I figure they will hang on my porch when they get tired of it.... My husband thinks I'm silly.....

old post but like mentioned i live sighlty out of town and they have a fenced in area about 100 feet by 50 feet bhind my shop with the coop and they love the bugs and worms when its raining..and they have a couple trees to go under..in fact the one tree grew at a 45 degree angle and i put two platforms hanging out the side when my Shibas used the fenced area for them to go up and sit{they loved it, funny how far up shibas can climb} and my chickens use them all the time...its funny to watch them coming down kinda carefull.... but back to rain mine like it and after the next day they dust bath like nuts...jeff

Mine are like my horses. They have a dry place to go, but many times choose to stay out in the rain. They'll roost wet at night, preen and be all fluffy again the next morning. I leave it up to them!

X 2 - yep, nice dry barn and there they are out in the rain, lol. The thing is, our idea of when they need to be in and their idea are often two different things, I figure they know how to be a chicken (or horse) better than I do. Sometimes we forget we don't have a nice coat of hair or feathers designed to help us weather the elements.

My hens roost on top of my coop and it’s raining, will they be okay? They have access to get inside their coop for dryness but choose to roost on top of the coop. They used to roost on top, then my other chickens go inside the coop so they followed for several weeks and then went back to roosting on top of the coop again ‍♀️ About maybe a week/week an a half now. They seem to love the rain. Don’t take much shelter when it’s raining. Here and there. Most of the time they stay in the rain . They free range the yard 24/7 I leave the coop door open at all times so they have access to their houses and nesting boxes. They are currently roosting on their roof of the coop now in the rain

I'm new to chickens too. I have barerock, jersey giant (black), and asterloop. The rain seems to bother them some but not too much. I think I am more bothered than they are. My covered run is getting muddy. I have a drainage problem, so I am putting in a wood pallet in the run until the rain stops so they can stand out from the mud. I will have to make some improvements to their run.

Thank you all for your comments as they have helped me out a lot.
