fishing line and CD's...How to???

I need a easy enough replacement for hawk netting over my run and have seen some using fishing line and CDs. Could anyone who has had success in this give me a quick "how to" instructions on how far apart to space the line and such....

I dont use fishing line; I use the neon pink mason's string. It's pretty tough. All I do it tie it to the top of the fence, walk it across and tie it to the other side. Eventually, it will stretch as it gets wet, then I may tighten it up on occasion. I crisscross the lines, then I take small lengths of the same line and tie them through the center of the CDs then tie to the line at interval and let them hand down. Every once in awhile, I have to unwind them from the main lines when a strong wind blows them around alot, but not too often. Here's a picture:

will those help keep little birds out of the yard also? also I am wondering if it will keep my banty roo from flying over the fence and taking a walk around the yard LOL
do the chickens notice them hanging there ?

I've never seen any little birds inside the runs, come to think of it. Doesn't mean they haven't been. I use this to keep hawks from being able to make a dive into the pen to get a chicken dinner. They reflect and flash into the eyes of birds, etc, plus the hawk would have to dive between the bouncing lines; so far, no trouble from hawks trying to get into the pens. My guineas did always fly out between the lines though.
 
Thanks speckledhen for the reply. I will do this in my run as soon as possible. The 14 inches of snow we got here has demolished my netting!!! Now I have to tromp thru tons of snow and work on the coop!!! Can't believe it!!!!
 
We always get CDs in the mail for internet providers; also, from demo CDs, CDs that are defective, just anywhere. I guess you could actually buy a pkg of the cheapest ones you could find, but we had enough around the house to use.
 
great idea, I'm gonna try it here. I've got a lot off other bird each morning in the run and I'm afraid they bring sickness. And the run is to big to cover in total. So I'm gonna try putting some CD's over the eating area. I'll let you know if it helps.
 
It should be easier to do....it's 55 degrees and all the snow is melted....yeah! That snow ruined my netting also

But now, you have to trudge thru the mud to fix your netting. Good Luck. Where are you located....I'm in Davison.
