I'm the chicken nut with the wounded hen--I got the Terramycin but the dose on the back is for the whole package...I think. The bag is 6.4 oz (181.4 g) On the back of package it gives the dosage for 3 different diseases--as follows 200-400 mg/gal or 400-800 mg/gal---then it says under PACK/2 GALLONS STOCK SOLUTION--5-10 or 10-20. HELP I'm so confused!!!!!
***It also says Do not administer to chickens producing eggs for human consuption--does that mean I can never have eggs from her again or just while she's on this medication?
Thanks!!!

4 tsp per gallon of water. This is the dose for chicks or adults. Dont try to figure out the other crap...it's a waste of time and that dose, once you figure it out, is not strong enough anyway.

Also, we wait for about three weeks after we have finished dosing our birds with anything, before we start eating eggs again. Two weeks, minimum.

Blue Moon, we did, but I think your fine. How is your bird? We did it based on the package dosages, it is not uncommon to overshoot dosages in livestock ecspecially with AB and when you are mixing it in a gallo of water where you are unsure of how much the bird drinks a day and the actual amount of the meds it gets. But the calculations were right.

Thanks for asking - so far, so good. The Orloff with the presumably ruptured air sac is also on the meds, as that can result from whatever respiratory problem the other two have. So, none have keeled over yet from the dosage!

I do wish there were easier ways to sort out smaller dosages.

Hi,

I know this is an old thread, but I'm still trying to figure out dosage and don't really see the answer here (the reference link is no longer viable). It SEEMS that previously when I had a few chickens with respiratory problems, a veterinarian who bought one of the sick birds advised me to use the Terramycin = 1 tablespoon/gallon (I was even more of a newbie then, and didn't even realize that the chickens were sick!).

I have a couple of the same packages of the medicine still: net weight 6.4 oz., contains 10 grams of Oxytetracycline HCl. Can anyone advise me how much to add to each gallon of water? I know that I change the water out, etc.

Start a new thread and you'll get a better response. I don't remember...I think it's a tsp per gallon for oxytet, but I can't remember for sure. You can also ask your feed mill to figure
it out for you. Ours will.
