Homeschool families?

Hello I'm in Missouri and want to start homeschooling my 6 yr old son. He is very hyper and has short attention span so normal school is not really a good fit for him. My question is where do I start? I am confident I can teach him but how do I. Get it going? Is it through our public school district or a completely separate organization? Any info would be a huge help. Thanks
