I went in to TSC to see if they had their chicks in yet. They do along with their ducklings. I was walking out and the lady behind the counter (very nice lady) asked if I found what I needed. I stated that I was just in to see if they had their chicks in yet but I dare not get any yet because I did not have my son with me. He is very excited about going to TSC and getting chicks. They had two bins with what looked like either Buff Orpingtons or maybe Red Star chicks. I asked the lady if she knew what kind they were she said that the bin should be marked. I said the only thing that was marked on it was "Straight Run" when she said...."Yeah, that means that they are all hens". I just laughed to myself and walked out. Well, anyway, I thought it was funny.

Had the same type of deal at Coastal Farm supply yesterday asked about a few of their bantams. Asked her if she had any idea's on the type of bantams they had in the bin, and she looked at me like I was some fool, and said "Well there Bantam's" Dah I am aware, but it's a bin of assorted bantams, she had no clue they came in different breed's.

Last year when I got my first chicks from TSC, I asked what kind of pullets they had in the pullet bin. Well DUH they're pullets was the type answer I got.
Well, at least I'll be sure to get hens is what I thought.

Even I knew what a pullet is, before I even joined BYC!

(I did get pullets at least: 3 Leghorn pullets who lay big white eggs almost every day!)

I'm not surprised - I've even heard of countless times when feedstore chicks come in, and they "accidentally" switch the bins, so the "Black Australorps" end up being Buff Orpingtons, the "Brahmas" end up being the Barred Rocks, and so forth. . . Remember, the people who work there are average minimum wage employees, not poultry experts.

Ours for example sell "brown egg layers." If you ask, you have "I don't know, they lay brown eggs. . ." or "umm, Rhode Island Reds? I don't know what those black ones are though."

Lol Atwoods is even worse than TSC, believe it or not. I once went to get some turkey poults, asked the guy if he knew what kind they were and he said, "probably just Leghorns." Got to the truck and about died laughing.

I have a friend that goes there every spring, they order straight run golden comets. I told him how to tell them apart, so he buy all buff color chicks(which are pullet) for straight run prices

Should be on the other side, I sold hundreds in my store.... had grown men ask which was the ducklings, and which are chicks
