Our duckling cracked her egg, it has been 24 and she has not been able to get out of her shell, i help a little and she is still stuck. I tried to pull some membrane off and it bleed a bit so I stopped. What do I do it has been over 24 since she internaly pipped her egg. any help would be helpful. I'm have been crying and praying for two days now.

Ok, take a washcloth and soak it with warm water and wrap it around the duckling. VERY slowly and VERY little at a time, peel it off. Is the duckling all the way out of the egg and just wrapped?

she still is in the shell. there is a inch round hole that i helped make. do i peel some more of the shell off and not the membrane. and thank you for your reply i'm going crazy!

I had a chick take over 24 hours. You could see its beak and a wing, but it took it forever to zip. Is she through the membrane at all?

Ok it is still i nthe shell, leave it alone. It is still absorbing the yolk and removing the shell will make it bleed out. Now is the time for patience, you can get the membrane off later.

This all started when my daughter took the egg from the nest at a park. I did not know I could put the egg back, I thought the mama would reject it. Any I brought the egg home and made a homemade incubator. I then called a wildlife center and they said to throw the egg in the garbage, but being the animal lover I am I decided to at least try. So everyday I turned and keep the egg warm. Finally I saw the a baby inside. Ok so it has been 28 plus days and she cracked the egg yesterday morning. I have been waiting for her to come out. Any way I was trying to help her thru the membrane and poked her. I about died, a little drop of blood came out. I have been crying and praying all night thinking I hurt this little baby duck. She made it thru the night and has been trying to break out ever since. I have had a rock in my stomach thinking I hurt her. I'm just going crazy. So any advice would be most helpful. Thank You Thank You Thank You.

Ok, the duckling can breath. It is uncomfortable, but not in danger. Let it finish. Do not remove anymore shell for a while now. It is still absorbing the yolk and blood.

D E E P breath!!! Give a while. And I hope you know that if you dont get another duckling to go with it, the danged thing is going to attach to a member of your family and follow it around and beg for attention mercilessly. I am serious!
