Golden Cuckoo Marans

Hello,

Being new here, and leaning toward this breed, I would like to know where the "golden" part of the Cuckoo Marans came from? Was it from crosses within the Marans breed, or was it an outside cross to something else? I tried searching for the answer before asking, but could not come up with an answer. Still trying to get set up here, but should be ready by the middle of June (ya I know, late bloomer!). Would love to find some hens and a roo ready for laying/breeding to start out with. If anyone has any they would like to sell, please e-mail me! Within or very near Missouri please! Hope to hatch my own next winter/spring. Thanks in advance.

I have BCMs and Birchens, but I'd love a few Golden Cuckoos. My first Marans were Cuckoo Marans and I loved them. My new ones came from hatching eggs. So hard to find decent breeders around me. Hope you find some your way, then you can send me eggs.

I don't know how the golden cuckoo was originally developed, but I believe you can "get there" by crossing black copper with cuckoo.

I had golden cuckoos pop up out of my line of cuckoos when I introduced birds from another breeder...I don't know why his birds produce goldens sometimes, but apparently it is common from this breeder. I formed a trio of the most "golden" birds I got last year & have just started hatching from them. It will be interesting to see what I get!

I have 5 now and I love mine. One is a light golden cukoo roo and has lighter yellow barred feathers on his hackles and chest than the normal darker gold coloring. I think he is gonna be real pretty that way. He is only 3 mos old or so. Some of his coloring reminds me of the Lemon Cuckoo coloring on the Orpingtons photo on the Greenfire farms website. He does have black barring in his tail feathers and the more golden/orangy barring down his back etc. It will be fun to work on getting the feathers on the legs of the Golden Cuckoos. They have such crazy playful personalities too. I wouldn't be suprised if that was how they got thier cuckoo name lol.
My others are more of a normal coloring but they are just hatched out a few days ago. Two people on byc breed and sell eggs from time to time. Pasofinofarms and Nivtup (think that's how its spelled). I see the eggs listed on ebay sometimes too.

Thank you all! Thanks for your offere Ann, but you are a bit far away. Hate to put the chickens in that much stress, especially at that age. Not to mention the shipping price! As an ex-rural mail carrier, let me tell you, they don't always get the best treatment! Some are left on the docks in full sun or freezing weather because "they are noisy", others are put it in places where they are constantly getting bumped into. Used to really tick me off, so I made myself the "chicken supervisor" of our office, lol. I would put them in a quiet, out of the way place, where the temps and lighting were just right for comfort. A man came one time to pick up his birds, and my supervisor couldn't find them and paniced! LOL. One of the clerks told him to find the "chicken super", she'd know where they were. He was about to chew me out, when I explained to him why I did it. The customer heard the conversation, and it was kudos for me. Too bad most offices don't take the time to do that, nor care, unless you happen to be in a rural or farming community.

Did you ever get the golden cuckoo marans figured out been wanting to get a few for there auto-sexing traits. None in my area..
