I got me some sevin dust because them pesky little black bugs will not stay away from my zuccini today and was reading the side panel and it says you can dust your chickens with it to protect against mites fleas etc. This was an old bad of dust but never knew it was used for this. Has anyone ever used it instead of DE? If so did it do okay or is it something I should shy from. Just looking for a little feedback if anyone wants to feel free to chime in.

Sure, in the US most poultry dust sold as such (for mites and lice) IS 5% sevin.

It is much better for fighting a vigorous infestation of mites or lice than DE is, IME. I would not use it unless there was an actual need though (an actual infestation)

GOod luck, have fun,

Pat

I use Sevin dust on the coop floors, nest boxes and roosts. I also put it in the runs. I had gotten chickens that had bugs on there legs and made their scales stick up, mites? I rubbed Sevin dust on them and it worked great. I don't do this all the time just once in a while.

HELLO, I HAVE BEEN BREEDING CANARIES FOR 30 YEARS AND I HAVE USED SEVEN DUST IN THE NEST OF NEW HATCHLINGS AND OF COURSE AROUND THE NEST ( THE ANTS WERE GOING TO DEVOUR THEM ! ) WITH NO SIDE EFFECTS OR DEATH TO ANY BABIES OR PARENT . ITS FABULOUS STUFF BUT MAKE SURE ITS 7 DUST !!! I AM GOING TO DUST MY CHICKENS TODAY . HOPE THAT HELPED .

I just bought some poultry dust from TS and they said it worked better than sevin dust.....but then I was told NO that sevin was better....so I too would like to know from everyone as well.

I detest sevin dust. I also keep honeybees, and sevin dust is deadly to bees. I do not let it or any pesticide anywhere near my place. I discourage my neighbors from using the stuff though I think my bees are filling their pollen needs on the wild things mostly.
