He does that challenge/intimidation dance at me whenever I look at him or sit down. One time, one of the hens took my hair ribbon out of my hand and I had to chase her for it. I had to corner her and out of the corner of my eye I saw the roo puff his neck feathers, raise his wings, and run at me. When I saw that I quickly grabbed the ribbon and jumped on a chair, I was afraid he was gonna peck me or hurt me.... All the hens are nice to me and even my EE blend girly pecks him on the head, I think he's somewhat afraid of her.
What do I do to show him I'm the boss? And I can't pick him up to calm him down or else he will peck at my arms and hands. I've tried it before and he broke the skin.
(If you are wondering I am a girl) He's totally cool with my mom, she can pick him up and do all sortsa stuff with him. Well he does peck her too.
Help would be highly appreciated

I have similiar issues with my roo. He has gotten really mean. It started with my daughter being chased by him and now everyone in the family is. I have to bring protection with me whenever I'm in the area. We are serously thinking of getting rid of him or making him dinner.

sometimes you have to give them a not so gentle kick.

I had my FBCMarans roo come after me last night.... I don't think he will again.. I'm just hoping he's doing his job, I have a friend doing a test hatch for me.

I have 2 roos who try that sort of business with me sometimes. I just give them a swift kick, or if I happen to have a stick nearby, I give them a tap on the back-----don't do this very hard, all they need is a light tap to know your boss.

Many, many roosters, plain and simply put, cannot be made safe to be around. When they start injuring you or yours, it's time to get rid of them. There are too many friendly roosters looking for a good home for you to keep one that could put your eye out. I spent two years battling one after trying everything to reform him, and I finally killed him. Get yourself a rooster that will let you enjoy all of your chickens.

i agree with what has been said- had to send my first roo to freezer camp- don't put up with it, if you need a roo, choose a brahma, cochin or favorolle- when i got rid of my BR roo, and got Barney the Brahma roo, the whole flock dynamics changed, the hens became friendly again and while Barney isn't a 'pet', he has never attacked me, and will actually beg for treats-

i struggled with guilt after all i had raised the little roo, but he was not safe to have around- and a good roo will change everything

You've shown him your fear of him, he will not stop now. It's purely dominance. I agree with the others that said find a mellow breed rooster that you are not afraid of.
