Sweeter Heater Vs. Flat panel heater

This hasn't been replied to for a long time, but I am getting 7 one day old chicks (7 of them one day old) April 2nd so needed a heat source anyways, so went with a sweeter heater. Thought might as well throw it up for our hens since its really cold anyways. Does this placement seem reasonable to you? When I have about 10 hens instead of the 3 next winter should i rethink it?

I'm not seeing the heater in the pic.
Most will tell you you don't need heat...
....depends on what 'really cold' means in C or F.
IMO good ventilation is more important than heat.

Sorry it is the flat panel in the upper right. Today it has warmed up to 12 degrees F in Wisconsin, but it is regularly below zero here. I have not been heating but since I have the heater anyways, and it is the sweeter heater that is radiant heat and doesn't heat the whole coop I thought I might as well throw it up there? Do you think having some heat will harm them or that it is just not necessary?

Thanks

That is one thing most do not understand. The sweeter heater will warm the birds up but it will not raise the temperature of a thermometer the way regular heaters do. You may think it is not heating the way you like when it actually is. If you were to place a glass of water under it and then read the temp of the water after a while you would get a better reading perhaps. I plan to use these this year for brooding for sure. Alot of great reviews out there on sweeter heaters.

I am planning on brooding mine with the sweeter heater in a couple weeks as well. I emailed with the people that make it and they suggested starting with it about 5 inches above the shavings or bedding material and just keeping a close eye on the chicks. If they raise their wings or pant raise it. If the are trying to climb each other lower it. But they said it’s very hard to get an accurate temperature with a standard thermometer. So that’s my plan. I guess I’ll just see how they use it and raise the heater as they grow and feather out until they roost with the adults.
