We've had a lot of fun totaling up how many chickens are on BYC: http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=220459

The problem, it's really hard to go through that thread and find out how many peeps most peeps have. big_smile   So, we thought it would be fun to start an official poll to really gather this interesting information.   

This should be interesting!

16 chickens (and 4 ducks). I sold quite a few roosters and hens in July to keep expenses manageable. Awfully quiet around here!

Don't get all your exercise leaping to conclusions!

Poultry- they may be your pets, they may be your hobby, they may be your livestock. But remember, if you fall down in the pen, unconscious? They WILL eat you.

I had to guesstimate as I have some hatching out today big_smile I have 55 I can officially count and 20ish in the bator!! Some will be rehomed this next week, but I want to maintain about 50.

But I need to rehome or sell

3 roos

2 RIR pullets

1 or 2 GC Maran pullets

2-4 Wheaten Ameraucana pullets

So what, that would get me down to almost 30?

Keeper of 26 hens,  4 PW Leghorns, 1 leghorn mix, 1 FBCMarans, 1 Australorp, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 Mama Olive Eggers w/ 15 chicks each, 1 EE, a Barred Rock, a RIR, a CQ, 1 Delaware, 1 Black Star, a Splash Ameraucana, 3 W/BW Ameraucana pullets, 5 polish, 2 Welsummers and 41 juvies of various breeds. YIKES!  Time to SELL some chickens!

We have about 70 right now, with about 60 eggs in the 'bator. We are selling approx 30 chicks and hens next week at Chickenstock in NY.


It still amazes me how we went from 5 to 70 so fast!

At present - 13 hens in the adult coop, 11 juvenile layers, 6 CX pullets, plus an adult roo and 3 cockerels that all think my bedroom window sill is the best place to do their morning crowing.  roll  So, 34 chickens total.

If there ever comes a day when we can't be together keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever - Winnie the Pooh
I'll never develop a thick skin.  Thick skin leads to a hard heart and I never want to be one of those people. 

A slave to LF brahmas, seramas, runner ducks, call ducks, two geese that are my feathered children, and a crossbeak silkie X named Dragon.
