I have some mallards and i never clip there wings and they stay around, buut i was wonder, will they fly away??

Well they will if your neighbors have a farm

My brother bought a call duck at the ohio nationals. He put it down with the chickens. It waddled to the end of the coop, and took off to our neighbors pond. We did get it back. It was so funny though.
I would assume if you get them used to the fact your area is home, they will stay.

From what I've read, if you keep their wings clipped for quite a while, they will get the idea. ...but if I could fly, I'd be on the move all the time!

i raise BEI and white calls and they free range with the rest of the flock of 20-50.
when i get something new that is older, i clip the wing and after it grows back its ok and stays around.

I love it when they fly around about five feet up. or when the wind catches them and they get blown downwind 30 feet or so....

I raised mine from ducklings and they stay. There are ponds on either side of us but they never go that far. They stay within 100 feet of the house, closer usually but we have several small ponds for them and there is plenty of foraging.

only if something or somebody really scares them will they leave and not return. The other case is if they fall in love with a wild duck. If they are old enough to fly when you get them clip the flight feathers on ONE wing so they get used to your place. By the time the feathers grow back (and they will) your place will be home to them,,

Mine likes to fly over the fence and lets me chase her. When she is done, she lets me pick her up and carry her back.

Once they learn where home is, they will stick around unless what goosedragon said.

I have some black and some gray calls they fly pretty well but as long as you raise them from a baby they won't fly away and I also i teach mine to fly they are not good natural flyers like mallerds and have no instinct to fly away or migrate.

Call ducks fly and they fly well it really comes down to general personality I had one drake who got bullied and I was oblivious since I was young and I thought that drake just loved flying away to a field or a pond and coming back that is not true from my experience make life comfortable and they will stay good water and good housing are all nessceties j would seriously reccomend a metal see through roofing just less stress for the call ducks If you only give them a place to dip their head into they won't be happy and trust me if your neighbour has a pond you will inevitably find 2 call ducks mating and splashing in the weather also keep general problems away such as disease pesticides and annoying dogs call ducks love attention but I wouldn't reccomend small children around them that are quite fragile they are perfect however for children 6 upwards also separate them from chickens not only will the chickens enjoy cleaner water but if a rhode island red is pecking at a call duck they will unequivocally get perturbed only keep them with very small bantams such as pekins seramas and sebrights if you clip their wings for the first month and give them an excellent standard of life trust me they won't go anywhere any time soon
