You can put mesh wire over the opening ? That way it can't get out.

Yes it is! It's my gutter down spout. Sigh. I bought a trap and now it has disappeared. Hopefully I ran it off but I'll def put a mesh over the pipe. I also stopped throwing out meat scraps and dog food.
Sad side effect my chipmunks have disappeared also. I liked those little guys.
