Chocolate Serama Breeders - dun and blue can be included here as well

I wanted to bring together some of the breeders who are working on the Chocolate color in Serama's so we can share information, photo's, trade Serama's and hatching eggs etc. I wanted to include blue and dun because of the way many of these are being categorized as Chocolate and I figure it would be a good way for everyone to learn how to get these cool colors and how they can be properly identified. I prefer it not to be a place to discredit anyone but a place to learn. Photo's are encouraged and I'd love to see photo's of chick down, juvenile feathering and adult feathering. I plan to share some chicks with SCNA members who already have the color and could use mine but I have about a dozen eggs right now, 5 under one setting hen, 6 under another and some in the incubator. My hen is chocolate, rooster is blue wheaten and I understand that none of the chicks from this cross will be chocolate but the roosters will be split for chocolate and I will be keeping one to breed back to the hen until I buy a black rooster for her. I would also be interested in a split for chocolate or chocolate rooster and would trade chicks for one. The hens will not get a chocolate gene from this initial cross and will all be for sale.

Im glad you started this. Im dieing to find some chocolates. I have a hen that may be chocolate, but cant get a good enough picture to post to find out. She may just be some kind of brown. The feather part of her feathers are a deep chocolate color but the feather shaft is a gold color I believe.

Photo's and background information may be helpful. Also, some of the members that understand the subtle clues like the feather shaft color may be able to help too.

Do you know the color of the rooster and hen she is out of? Did you hatch her? What color was her down? The whole idea for this thread is to help everyone better understand what they actually have so if they like the color, they can learn how to make more of them. Even if you just love wacky Serama colors, and I do, sometimes there is just a burning question like what color is this?

How can I help you with posting photos? They don't have to be posing, you just need some good lighting and clear photo's.

I have no clue about her breeding. I might be able to dig up pictures when she was a chick to check her down color. My camera is awful at taking pictures. I might try to get DH to use his camera and see if I can get some better quality ones. She probably will end up just being some type of brown.

There are some Black/Choco Split Roos for sale in the Auction section!!! Check them out! Im just starting out, my freind and i are co breeding them, we aren't set on a color other then NO Molted breeds and NO Frizzles. lol

Here was Nesmee as a chick. Now remember, these were someones culls, I just wanted to get a few. Someone thought she might be bbr with dun melanizer or something like that. I will try to get some up to date pictures tomorrow. Ignore the splash OEG. Nesmee's feathers are a chocolate brown, except down her throat. And the shafts are golden.

Here is my chocolate rooster Hershey, he is for sale. He is a chocolate carrier, when bred to solid black he will produce chocolate pullets. I have never used him for serama breeding he was used for a project. I didn't hatch a ton of offspring as I was happy with the one choc pullet to work from. Yes I did get a few other colors (expected) as well but I was very happy with the results. I have since bred the pullet and her resulting offspring are chocolate as well.

I have another gorgeous young cockerel from a different breeding that is showing much promise for being chocolate as well. Time and offspring will tell this fall.
