Coop ladder

How steep of a chicken ladder can I have.    I am putting a ladder from floor of coop(4') to a landing about 18" tall and then another ladder from stoop to ground.    I don't want the pitch so steep that my chicken won't or can't use.   I am getting my first set of chicks in May and want to have everything just right.

It is often what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.

My ladder in my big girl coop is probably around 45 degrees.  The ladder for my little ones to climb from their run into their coop is probably a little less than that, more gradual.  But that's because they're silkies, and silkies aren't known for being the best ramp climbers hu

Caretaker of a lovely mixed flock including: australorp, plymouth rocks, wyandotte, d'uccles, silkies, EEs, andalusian, and a few seramas, plus a golden retriever, great dane, and three cats.  I always swore that I wouldn't succumb to chicken math.  I lied.

Thanks for the information...   I will be posting pictures later as I think I will have a little less pitch..    Almost embarrassed to post too many pictures as my coop is missing the final touches..

...make your ladder two times as long as the distance between the roost and the floor....

Chicken Addiction caused me to have 34 hens of various breeds: Marans, Wyandottes, Ameracanas, Barnvelders, Leghorn, Golden Duckwing, Plymouth Rock, New Hampshires, Welsummers, and on and on....great hobby. If they have pretty feathers, they are mine!!!  My wife formerly hated chickens...now she devotes most of her day to caring for them...what a wonderful woman.

You can also put a raised platform under the ladder/ramp (chickens hop on the platform and then up the ladder)

Maybe a couple cinder blocks would do the trick if you don't want to make a long ladder/ramp.
