I would take white thread and tie it off so nothing else comes out. Cut off what is hanging and hope for the best. I have had some live and some not make it when this happens.

Okay, I tied it off about 1/2an inch (maybe less) from the navel. The sack was about the size of a nickle, is that significant? Is there anything else I can do? Should she be in the brooder or the incubator?

Leave it in the bator for now and wait for it to dry. It may take some time to dry up and start to move around but it needs time to rest and absorb the rest of that sac. Hatching is hard work so give it time.

After this little chick was moved to the brooder, I fed him some poly-vi-sol and dipped his beak in the water. A short time later he started eating, and now I can barely tell which one he is!

I am so happy that I was able to help him!

Thank you Wayne&Kim

My humidity had gotten too high. The first chick to pip had died from being shrink wrapped and I over corrected the humidity.

I had a couple other chicks hatch with unabsorbed yolk sacks, but theirs were not too bad, and they were able to absorb their yolk sacks with a little extra time in the incubator.
Needless to say I have learned a lot from this hatch.

I had a hatch that I have called my nightmare hatch. It seemed everything went wrong the entire time. We lost power on week 2 for 8 hours, then on week 3 we lost power again for another 4 hours. After the 8 hour loss, the incubator for some reason lost it's mind and temps went up to 102.5, but my thermometer was stuck on 99.6 for the remander of the week and we didn't notice until the second power outage. All the chicks hatched early, sticky, stinkey, and several with the problem your chick had, and worse.

I'm glad your situation worked well for you! I now have a bunch of thermometers in each incubator!

Baralak, how are your chicks now?

I only ended up losing two in this first batch (I have a second incubator and I am doing my first staggered hatch). The first was the shrink wrapped one and the second was one who struggled to hatch and had a slipped tendon because of it. I think I got lucky considering my faux pas.

Good luck on your next hatch!!
